On April 30, 2009, Utah Heritage Foundation kicked off its third Annual Utah Preservation Conference with the Utah premiere of Los Angeles-based "histo-tainer" Charles Phoenix and his Retro Slideshow Tour of the USA!  We held the event at the Salt Lake City Main Library in the Nancy Tessman Auditorium, and we hope everyone enjoyed it!

From the kitsch to the classic, Charles Phoenix loves to celebrate mid Twentieth-century life and style. His massive collection of flea market-found 1950s and 60s vintage slides inspire his live Retro Slide Show performances, "Slide of the Week" e-mails, and colorful coffee table books - including his latest, American the Beautiful: Mid-Century Culture in Kodachrome. Charles is also a recurring correspondent for the Martha Stewart Show and NPR's Day to Day. He lives in Southern California.

Phoenix is the author of seven books, most recently celebrating 50's era American road trips, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Southern California and the Pomona Valley.

Check out Mr. Phoenix' MySpace page and YouTube channel for more information about him and his presentations.
